Terms of Use

1. Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Toothed AI website (the “Site”) and the Levy 1 chat service (the “Service”). Together with the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy, they form the agreement between you and Toothed AI (“Toothed AI”, “we”, “us”).

By accessing or using the Site or the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site or the Service.

When these Terms refer to “you”, they mean the person using the Site or the Service. If you use them on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

2. The service we provide

Toothed AI is an independent research project exploring small, efficient language models. The Site describes the project, and the Service lets you chat with Levy 1, a compact language model trained from scratch by the project.

The Site and the Service are provided free of charge. We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of them at any time, with or without notice, and we will not be liable to you for doing so. Features described on the Site are illustrative and subject to change.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Site or the Service. If you are under the age of digital consent in your country, you may only use them under the supervision of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them — see the Privacy Policy.

4. Accounts

To chat with Levy 1 you need an account: you register a username, an email address and a password, and you confirm ownership of the email address by entering a code we send you. No payment is required — the Service is free.

Conversations are not stored. Each conversation lives in the browser tab where it happens and is discarded when the tab closes. We cannot recover a conversation for you later, and nothing you type is kept in an account or chat history — see the Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for what happens through your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, sign out and contact us.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Site or the Service. In particular, you will not:

  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in a way that violates applicable law;
  • attempt to disrupt, overload, probe, scan or test the vulnerability of our servers or network, or circumvent any rate limit or technical measure;
  • use automated tools or scripts to scrape or copy the Site, or to send automated requests to the Service;
  • attempt to access features of the Service that are not exposed to you, or use the Service in a way that harms other users;
  • submit content that is illegal, harassing, hateful, defamatory or that infringes the rights of others;
  • use the Service to generate content intended to deceive, such as impersonating a real person without their consent.

6. Levy 1 is experimental

Levy 1 is an experimental language model. Its responses are generated automatically from statistical patterns and may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, offensive or entirely made up (“hallucinated”). They do not reflect the views of Toothed AI and must never be treated as fact.

The output of the Service is not professional, medical, legal, financial or any other kind of advice. You alone are responsible for how you use, verify and rely on the responses you receive. Do not use the Service for any purpose where an error could cause harm to you or to others, and do not act on its output without independent verification.

The Service is provided without any guarantee about the quality, accuracy, safety or availability of its output.

7. Your content

You retain all rights in the messages and other content you submit to the Service. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to process and transmit your content for the sole purpose of providing the Service to you — generating responses for your current conversation. We do not store your content, do not use it to train models, do not sell it, and do not share it with third parties beyond what is technically necessary to operate the Service.

You are responsible for the content you submit. Do not submit content that is unlawful, and do not include personal information of other people without their consent.

8. Intellectual property

The Site and the Service, including their text, design, graphics, code, and the names, marks and logos of Toothed AI and Levy 1, are owned by Toothed AI or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws.

Nothing on the Site grants you a licence or any right to use them, except to access and use the Site and the Service in accordance with these Terms. You may not reproduce, modify, distribute or create derivative works from them, except where the Site expressly permits it (for example, citing benchmark results with attribution).

9. Feedback

If you send us suggestions, ideas or other feedback about the Site or the Service, you agree that we may use it freely, without any obligation to you, in developing and improving the project.

10. Third-party content and benchmarks

The Site may reference books, papers, datasets and other materials belonging to third parties — for example, the benchmark scores of other models cited on the Levy 1 page. Such references are provided for information only, with attribution, and do not imply endorsement by their owners or by us. You are responsible for verifying any third-party claim before relying on it.

11. Disclaimers of warranty

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SITE AND THE SERVICE ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE OR THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE, OR THAT THE OUTPUT OF LEVY 1 WILL BE ACCURATE, RELIABLE OR SAFE TO RELY ON.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights you may have as a consumer that cannot be limited under applicable law.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL TOOTHED AI BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL OR USE, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SITE, THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE) OR OTHERWISE.

Because the Site and the Service are provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to them is limited to the amounts you have paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim — which is zero in the absence of any paid features. This limitation applies to the maximum extent permitted by law and does not apply to liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including under mandatory consumer protection provisions.

13. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Toothed AI and its contributors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to your use of the Site or the Service, your breach of these Terms, or content you submit to the Service.

14. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site or the Service, in whole or in part, at any time and without prior notice, if you breach these Terms, if we reasonably believe your use is abusive or unlawful, or to protect the operation of the Service. You may stop using the Site and the Service at any time.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including sections 6, 7, 8, 11, 12 and 13 — will survive it.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version is always published on this page with the date shown above. If we make material changes, we will draw your attention to them; depending on the change and where you are, this may include a notice on the Site. If you continue to use the Site or the Service after the changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain (European Union). If you are a consumer in the European Union or the European Economic Area, you also benefit from any mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you live, and any provision of these Terms that would limit those rights does not apply to you; you may bring any dispute before the competent courts of that country.

For all other users, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Spain.

17. Severability and waiver

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Toothed AI regarding the Site and the Service.
